ARCHIVE: The Peahen

To start things off, I’ll go back a couple months to a story that I still find fun to tell… just in case you missed it.

Today was one of those days. It was lining up to be a ho-hum day when I got to work and saw the shooter schedule. My spot was empty. Nothing to do but wait for something to happen. In the meantime, I took the Omni car to get the windshield fixed. It had a few cracks. Consider that a foreshadowing of the day’s events.

For my friends who don’t live in Edmonton, here’s a summary of what’s been making headlines in the city. There was a peacock running loose. Well, it’s female so we call it a peahen. For the past few days, animal control officers and other people living in this neighbourhood have been trying to catch this peahen. Most of the time, it stayed on the roofs of homes and because of the recent snow and cold, it’s been too slippery to climb up to catch it. Once in a while, the peahen would drop down to ground level. That’s when they jumped into action with nets and blankets. Every time they came close, the bird would jump up and escape.
